EHR Update: An improved ordering workflow for labs and imaging

Today, we’re streamlining your workflow for ordering labs and imaging studies within Practice Fusion. If you’re currently connected to a lab, you’ll see it as an option in the vendor list on the ordering screen when it becomes available for ordering.

To add an order from a patient’s chart, navigate to Add order (Beta) in the Patient Actions menu. Once you’ve documented the details of the order, you can save the order to the patient’s chart. You can also save the order as a template for future use to streamline your workflow.

To see all orders created for all patients, visit View Orders from the Labs/Imaging section of the EHR. You’ll navigate to the new Tasks view, where you can see tasks for both yourself and your practice. As we transition to the new EHR, you’ll begin to see additional types of tasks in your task list.

You can also see a specific lab order in a patient’s chart by clicking on the Labs/Imaging tab in a chart and then on View orders. This will take you to the new timeline view for your patient, where again, you will begin to see additional patient events in coming months.

We’ve been evaluating improvements to this workflow over the last several months with a number of practices and labs. We’ve learned a lot from these practices and incorporated many of their suggestions.

We’ll be making improvements to your labs and imaging workflows soon. For now, as you add and view orders, tell us what you think about this new important functionality by visiting our Knowledgebase.
