Florida State Mandates
Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances
Federal Mandate: Medicare Part D Practitioners In 2018 the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act was passed by the federal government. The Act includes legislation that requires Medicare Part D practitioners to begin electronically prescribing Part D drugs requiring prior authorization on January 1, 2021. Medicare Part D prescribers in every state are subject to the above stated mandate and must comply.
Florida State Mandate: All Prescribers As established in Florida House Bill 831, prescribers will be required to generate and transmit all prescriptions electronically beginning on January 1, 2020. This will include both controlled substances and non-controlled substances. While the established implementation date is January 1, 2020, the mandate will not apply to prescribers until the date of their official license renewal following January 1, 2020, or by July 1, 2021, whichever date falls first. Prescribers must use a secure, safe software system and are encouraged to adopt electronic prescribing software capabilities prior to the mandatory implementation date of January 1, 2020.
