HIMSS EHR Association elects Practice Fusion’s Chief Medical Officer as Vice Chair
We’re proud to announce the election of our Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Informatics, Richard Loomis, MD, as the next Vice Chair of the HIMSS Electronic Health Record Association (EHRA). Dr. Loomis will serve a one year term beginning in July.
As described on its website, “the EHRA brings together companies that develop, market, and support electronic health records” and “strive [s] to engage the EHR software developer community and other stakeholders regarding EHR and health IT standards development, EHR certification processes and criteria, interoperability, patient safety, EHR usability, privacy and security, electronic performance and quality measures (eCQMs), health IT-focused public policy, and other EHR-related issues that are the subject of increasing government, payer, and provider focus.” As an example of its participation in policy matters, the EHRA met congressional staffers last week to provide feedback on Senate bill (S.2511) that addresses challenges with interoperability and usability in healthcare.
As Vice Chair, Dr. Loomis will advocate for the interests of EHR stakeholders, which includes, in part, leading the EHRA’s efforts in working collaboratively across the industry to advance interoperability in healthcare. In response to the EHRA’s election results, Dr. Loomis shared: “These are exciting and challenging times for our industry. The work of the EHRA is important in informing policymakers as we work together to move to new value-based payment models which depend upon interoperable health IT solutions.”
